Philosophy (PHIA) is a non-lab based honours subject available in Day shift under the BACHELOR OF ARTS Course in our college.
The Department of Philosophy of Dum Dum Motijheel College was established in 1950. Although the general course was initiated with the origin of this institution, the Honours course was introduced in the year 2003. Through the informative lecture-based, our esteemed faculty members intensively discuss the core areas of the subject. Study material is provided to the students for their better understanding. Students are motivated to pursue higher studies to enhance their wisdom and compete in various state and national level examinations. With these objectives in mind, the teachers of the department organise class lectures, interactive sessions, tutorial classes and power point presentation through which the students can get a broader perspective of the latest philosophical developments.

The central library has a very good collection of books including some rare books related to the subject.
The department also has a good seminar library having a reasonable number of books. Both teachers and students regularly borrow books from seminar library for their academic purpose.
Teachers of the Department are engaged in various research and academic activities. Some of the teachers also serve as resource person to deliver lectures in other institutions.
Every year the Department of Philosophy proudly celebrates World Philosophy Day and organises a special lecture on this occasion.
Renowned academicians are invited to deliver lectures to enrich both students and the teachers.
The department organises special lectures in collaboration with the other departments as well.
Students are also encouraged to present Seminar Paper on topics related to their syllabus, current affairs of national and international relevance.
Posters are prepared by the students of the department.
Educational Tours are arranged in a periodic manner.
Teachers also join National, International or State Level Seminars organised by different universities and colleges.
Teachers of this department take part in Faculty Improvement Programmes like Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses arranged by the university from time to time.
