Political science (PLSA) is a non-lab based honours subject available in Day shift under the BACHELOR OF ARTS Course in our college.
The Department of Political Science is a private space where the faculty members and the students of the Department interact for preparing themselves for optimum use of the public space for self and social development. The basic responsibility of the Department is dissemination of knowledge to the learners of different categories: the general students, the first generation learners, and students from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. It also serves students not only of the adjacent areas but also of others States like, Bihar and the North-East, and country like Bangladesh.

1.The Department has a well experienced and qualified faculty.
2. The department frequently organizes tutorial classes for students.
3.The Department provides with career counseling and guidance to students who are unsure of what field they want to enter after graduation and need some guidance choosing subjects, as well as final-year students looking for their first job. They may also provide advice and assistance to students seeking part-time work or work experience during their course.
4.The Department has a seminar library with rich number of books.
5.Teachers often assist the former students engaged in PG course.
Under the guidance of the Admission Committee, the Department prepares the Merit List (Honours) as per rules of the University admission procedure for the department. It also counsels, if necessary, the students and their parents regarding academic potentiality of the subject and its potentiality in the job sectors.
In addition to following traditional mode of teaching, the Department organizes debates, news analysis, etc. to encourage students for development of analytical faculty and creative writings on different political issues.
The Department follows University norms of holding two internal examinations the Annual Examination and the Test Examination. Beside this, the Department is used to take class tests for Honours students at regular interval. The marked scripts are again given to the concerned students for their self-evaluation to make them aware of their weaknesses. The students are also provided with the answer scripts, except his/her own, of class tests for evaluation to furtherance of perfect self-assessment. The teachers further guide students in writing skill, style of essay and logical presentation, etc.
The teachers of the Department regularly meet among themselves and meet parents to discuss academic affairs, especially the problems of students as and when required. The performance of the students is also evaluated periodically and students are conveyed of their shortcomings for self evaluation.
The Department organizes seminar and workshop in collaboration with local College as when possible. It also arranges special lectures attended by renowned academics and experts in different fields. All teachers of the Department actively participate in the state and national level seminars and workshops organized by other institutions. The students are also encouraged to attend college seminars and seminars organized by other colleges to get them aware of the recent developments in social science disciplines.
With the assistance of the students, the Department carries out a socio-political documentation of Dum Dum at a Glance. The Department hopes that with sustained endeavor this documentation will be made up-to-dated for the use of the students and researchers in future.
Besides personal contacts, the Department gets in touch with its ex-students time to time. However, as most of them are entangled in the whirlpool of modern life, the Department faces difficulties to contact the OGBs for dialogue. They engaged in various work spaces ranging from academic works including teaching, government service to the world of media, communication network, political leadership and defense and allied services, business, legal service, IT sectors, etc.
